Spreading #TheHappinessEffect

Some 10,000 young people flocked to the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City to be part of the Live Pure Conference 2015 last August 30.  Dubbed as #TheHappinessEffect, this year’s conference gathered young people from schools and parishes in and around Metro Manila to an afternoon of prayer, talks and worship.

In his homily, Most Rev. Teodoro Bacani, Jr., DD, told the delegates that God wants the young people to be happy: not with a fleeting kind of happiness, but with the true and lasting happiness that can only be found in Christ.  He also voiced out his admiration for the young people present, and he assured them that God is pleased with them for pursuing Christ through the said conference.

Husband-and-wife tandem Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Mariel Tesoro gave talks about the Pursuit of Happiness and The Happiness Effect.  Their talks were coupled with video-clipped testimonies of various individuals, ranging from a bullied high school student to a young missionary, from a religious sister to a married couple, all of which showed how these individuals tried to find happiness in success, in material things, in worldly fun, but found it only in having a personal relationship with Christ.

Joseph mentioned three things that often serve as happiness blockers to young people: insecurity, hopelessness and fear.  He shared that most of the time, the young people have all they need to be happy, but they fail to recognize this because they keep on looking at what their neighbors have.  Also, focusing on the difficulties of life and on its uncertainty causes young people to lose hope and be fearful of the future.

On the other hand, Mariel elaborated how these happiness blockers can be avoided.  She said that by choosing happiness, by deciding to be happy, and by placing one’s happiness in Jesus, true happiness can be achieved.  She reminded them also that a happy person has the responsibility to share that happiness with others, to not let the happiness stop with them.  She told those present that they are mere vessels of happiness and as such, must pour out this happiness to others as well.
