Central Luzon Youth Leaders pledge to #EndSlavery

Around 20 youth leaders of the Central Luzon Regional Youth Ministry underwent a formation program on Human Trafficking last June 17-19, 2016 at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish, Castillejos, Zambales.

Coinciding with their 1st Biannual Meeting for the year, the formation focused on educating the leaders about human trafficking. Facilitated by Ms. Maria Cristina Bagaforo, Human Trafficking Coordinator of the Diocesan Commission on Youth of the Diocese of Malolos, the formation started with a film showing of “Human Trafficking”, a 2005 movie which showed how human trafficking operates across the world.

It was followed by mapping the source, transit and destination of trafficked persons and how they are recruited in this so-called modern day slavery. Ms. Bagaforo also introduced the 4Ps Paradigm on Combating Trafficking in Persons: Protection, Prosecution, Prevention and Partnerships. She also explained RA9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons ct of 2003, an existing Philippine Law on Trafficking.

As a sign of their commitment to join the fight against trafficking, the dioceses made pastoral plans on how they can incorporate the battle against human trafficking in their respective dioceses. These plans were collected by the Regional Council and will be monitored in their coming regional meetings. The formation program ended with each attendee signing a pledge of commitment to end slavery.
