CYMPLE (Certificate on Youth Ministry, Pastoral Leadership and Empowerment)

The Archdiocesan Commission on Youth of Manila and the University of Santo Tomas offer Certificate on Youth Ministry, Pastoral Leadership and Empowerment (CYMPLE). This is a 7-Saturday non-degree certificate course designed to equip youth leaders and potential youth leaders with the necessary skills demanded by youth ministry. Course sessions are held at the UST Center for Campus Ministry. This batch, already the 5th since the CYMPLE began to be offered by the partnership between the two offices through its Center for Campus Ministry, enrolled some 29 youth leaders coming from various parishes in the archdiocese, as well as from the UST campus ministry and a couple of ecclesial youth movements. They started last 02 April and will end on 02 July 2016.

The ECY Secretariat was invited by Rev. Fr. Ramon Jade Licuanan, Youth Director of the Archdiocese of Manila, to handle the second session last 16 April, on Catholic youth ministry. Mr. Stephen Borja facilitated the session. Other sessions are on engaged citizenship, effective youth leadership, youth catechesis, critical thinking, peer facilitating, etc.

The April 16 session targeted to present youth ministry as outlined by KA-LAKBAY, the Directory for Catholic youth ministry in the country. Guided by the story of the road to Emmaus (cf. Lk 24:13-35), the whole group journeyed in an understanding of youth ministry according to how Jesus acted in the encounter and seeing His actions as instructive and inspiring in their ministry now: choosing to come and walk by the side of the youth, listening to them, enabling them to recognize the Lord as alive in their lives, living in communion with them, and uniting them with their communities.

Various elements of youth ministry were also discussed within the deepening of the Gospel story, such as the three (3) goals of youth ministry and how these are interrelated, leading to an integral approach in ministry; and the seven (7) characteristics which should describe authentic youth ministry.

The session ended with a planning strategy for youth ministry culled from the KA-LAKBAY contents, which Stephen presented to the group. This strategy involved relating the six (6) components of youth ministry to one’s perception of young people according to their faith needs, what is described in KA-LAKBAY as potential audience.

The course participants expressed much learning from the session, and excitement for the next sessions.

WYD2016 Group Orientation

More than a month after the Orientation of the Group Leaders and Assistant Leaders last August 15, some of the groups registered with ECY-Philippines, the official delegation of the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Youth to the World Youth Day (WYD) 2016, organized their own Group Orientation that strengthened their preparation for the WYD2016.

These groups met with their respective members to present and explain the application process established for the ECY-Philippines, and to elaborate on how they can prepare together for the WYD2016 not only in relation to the requirements but also to their being pilgrims (to see their photos click here).

Around 500 individuals from different groups representing particular churches, youth organizations, schools and other settings are expected to join the CBCP-ECY delegation to the WYD2016.

To welcome greater participation, the ECY is extending the registration of a group in this delegation until October 15.  Similarly, the application of individuals, whether belonging to a group or not, is extended until December 11.
